Frequently asked questions
Q. We thought you weren't ever getting married. What's up?
A. See the rite of marriage for an explanation.
Q. Do you have a gift registry?
A. Yes. At Bon-Macy's, Crate and Barrel and REI.
Q. What should I wear?
We love you regardless of your attire. Come as you are or as you'd like to be.
Q. What are you wearing?
Lisa is wearing a purple tea-length dress that was inspired by 1950s party dresses. The dress was designed and made locally by Cicada. Ben is wearing a charcoal or black (still undecided) hemp silk suit custom-tailored by our wonderful friend Yvonne.
Q. I heard the wedding has a retro theme. Is this true? Must I come in costume?
Not exactly. We played around with the idea of doing a '50s theme and then decided on a general retro theme and then decided to skip a theme altogether. However, fifties retro style inspired Lisa's dress, the invitations, and other details. If you feel inspired come in your own retro style but by no means obligated to do so!
Q. Will food be served?
Yes. After our ceremony, we'll chow down on grub cooked by Occasions Catering. For dessert, Yvonne is making a variety of scrumptious cream puffs.
Q. Should I leave the kids with a baby-sitter or bring them along?
That's up to you. We love having kids around; they are quite entertaining. We also understand that kids get bored at adult events and parents sometimes don't have as much fun when they are making sure the little ones are on good behavior. After the ceremony there will be a separate room that the kids can play in. This won't be a baby-sitting service but we will try to gather up some games, toys and hopefully some older cousins to keep the little ones entertained. Let us know if you have any ideas!
Q. Who's in your wedding party?
You are.
Q. Seriously though, who's in your wedding party?
We are the wedding party, we will take the vows of marriage. Our friend Terra will officiate our ceremony, our grandmothers will bear legal witness, Lisa's nieces will be flower girls (although they probably won't have any flowers to throw and we have no real expectations of getting them to walk down the aisle), and Ben's niece Erin will be the ring bearer.
Q. Your friend Terra is a minister?
Yes. Terra recently became a member of the Spiritual Humanism Clergy. While this is not a traditional or even particularly religious church, the ordaination is legal and allows Terra to perform marriage ceremonies in Washington State.
